Beaches of Folegandros

Agali beach

Sandy, Partly Organised, Family friendly

Location: 5km west of Folegandros Town

Agali beach is a beautiful sandy beach and one of the most crowded beaches during the summer. There are a few cafes and taverns nearby which is only open in summer. The beach is ideal for swimmers. There are also a few accommodation options in the area if you want to stay the night.

The word Agali means “To Hug” and it is quite appropriate as the huge rocks in the region of the beach appear to be hugging the beach.

It is easy to reach the beach by car, bus or foot.

 

Karavostasi beach

Sandy, Partly Organised, Family Friendly, Harbor

Location: 3km south-east of Folegandros Town

Karavostasi beach is located near the port and has lovely trees that offer shade to its visitors. And this makes it an ideal spot for families. The beach is also ideal for swimmers as the water has lovely crystal-clear waters.

The beach is also close to other beaches and offers lots of alternative options like day short day excursions ect.

 

Agios Georgios beach

Pebbled & Sandy, Secluded, Non-Organised, Nudism Friendly

Location: 8km north west of Folegandros Town

Agios Georgios beach is located in the northern part of the island. The beach is subject to strong winds, so it would be wise to check the weather before going there.

 

Ambeli beach

Pebbled, Secluded, Non-Organised

Location: 8km north west of Folegandros Town

It is a bit more difficult to get to Ambeli beach as it can only be reached by boat or foot. From Agios Panteleimonas Church it would take around a half an hour to reach the beach. There are no tourist facilities present at the beach, so it is recommended to take your own supplies.

Ambeli offers great views and great sunsets to its visitors.

 

Ligaria beach

Pebbled, Secluded, Non-Organised

Location: 8km north west of Folegandros Town

Ligaria beach is a small secluded beach located near the town of Ano Meria. The beach is less crowded and less explored than the other beaches.

To get to the beach you can take a boat or walk there. As there are no facilities near the beach, you need to be prepared to pack and bring your own supplies for the day. There aren’t any trees, so it would be ideal to take your own umbrella.

 

Katergo beach

Pebbled, Secluded

This lovely beach is the longest and the nicest on the island, with crystal clear waters and has white tiny pebbles on the beach. There are no facilities like cafes, taverns or umbrellas at the beach. The name derives from the long islet that lies the “katergo”, a gallery moved by Convicts.

You can access the beach by boat or by foot. By foot it is a rather difficult route and you need to be careful.

 

Chochlidia beach

Pebbled, shade, Organised, Family friendly

This lovely pebbled beach has lots of trees that offers shade to its visitors. Here you will find lots of cafes and taverns in the area. It is a family friendly beach and can be accessed with a car, on foot or by bus.

 

Vardia beach

Pebbled, Sandy, Unorganised

Vardia beach is one of the longest beaches on the island. The beach is a mixture of sand and tiny pebbles. There are a few trees but not a lot. The beach lays behind the port on the Northern side of the island and it is better not to visit when the north wind blows. When the wind blows from the South, it is a wonderful choice.

From the port you need to walk uphill behind the “Vardia Hotel” and then down the stairs to the beach.

 

Livadaki beach

Pebbled, Unorganised, no facilities

A marvellous beach with turquoise waters, pebbled beach and flat limestone around the beach, which offers great place for rest and sunbath. The scenery is very beautiful, and you will find a few trees that offer some shade in the summer.

To reach the beach you can take a boat from Agkali, which will take around 10 minutes or you can walk from Ano Meria which will take you around 45 minutes.

 

Latinaki beach

Sandy, Unorganised, no facilities

Latinaki beach is the first of three beaches going from Karavostasis to Livadi. It has nice blue waters, and a view of the port. You can gaze at the boats going out of the port while swimming and sun tanning.

The beach is around 800m from the port of Latinaki. You can walk or drive there and need to take steps down to the beach.

 

Livadi beach

Sandy, Shade, Family friendly, Partly Organised

Livadi beach is situated on the Eastern side of the island, close to the port. The beach is sandy, and the waters are warm (probably the warmest on the island). You will find lots of trees on the beach. There is also a canteen and a restaurant nearby at the campsite which is around 100m away.

From Livadi port it takes around 2 minutes to drive to the beach and walking takes around 15 minutes.

 

Vitzenzou beach

Sandy, Unorganised, Secluded

This is a small quiet beach close to the port of Karavostasi (1000m). It is easy to reach the beach by car or on foot. There are no facilities like cafes, taverns, restaurants or umbrellas at the beach.

 

Pountaki beach

Sandy, Secluded

Pountaki beach is the third beach in a row (Latinaki – Vitsentzou – Pountaki), and closest to Livadi beach. It has a view to the islet of Ai Giannis and a little church on top, nearby Sikinos. There are also several rocky islets.

To get to Pountaki beach you pass the path to VItsentzou and after 300m there is a sign that take you down to Pountaki. It is a short but steep path and you should be cautious.

 

Voreina beach

Pebbled, Unorganised

This north facing beach has pebbles on the beach with no organised facilities like cafes or umbrellas. You need to bring your own supplies for the day like food and water. You can reach the beach on foot or by boat.

 

Serfiotiko beach

Secluded, Pebbled

This is a north facing beach which is very isolated and usually not getting a lot of visitors. The beach is pebbled and have a few trees. This beach can only be reached by foot from Ano Meria. There are 2 routes that can be taken. The short route takes around 30 minutes, starting at the Church of Analipsi and the longer route takes around 45 minutes from the Church of Agios Andreas.
