Achla Beach

Achla beach is located on the northeast coast of the island and about 10km from Chora. The road to the beach is a track for about 8km and you need a jeep or a motorbike to reach it. The beach has sand and pebbles and a rich environment with impressive plantain trees. The Achla river flows to the Achla Beach and is one of the three biggest rivers of Andros.

Apart from the high plane trees there are also small waterfalls which end up in little lakes which is great for swimming. Here you will find freshwater crabs, eels, waterfowls, rabbits, partridges, rare migratory birds and dragonflies.

At the one end of the beach you will find a small chapel called Agios Nikolaos and at the other the lighthouse of Gria. During August you will find many yachts and boats here.

There are no tourist facilities at the beach, apart from a few accommodation options in the area.

Agios Petros Beach

The name of the beach comes from the nearby Hellenistic watch tower of Agios Petros (Saint Peter), which is recently renovated. It is located on the road to Batsi from Gavrio, the beautiful village of Agios Petros.

The western side of the island is far less crowded with tourists and ideal for those looking to find space, peace and privacy. This sandy beach is the longest on the island, almost one kilometre long. The water is transparent, and the beach is ideal for walking or running.

The Kaliva Beach Bar offers excellent drinks and delicious snacks every day. The beach and sea are family friendly but doesn’t offer a lot of shade and therefore you need to carry adequate sun protection with you.

The Pyrgos (or tower) of Agios Petros situated above the village, is one of the most well-preserved ruins on the island. You can reach the tower by car, but the last few meters need to be covered on foot. It is a 20m high tower and was used in the Greek empire’s signalling system.

Agios Sostis Beach

Location: 40km from Chora, 10km from Gavrio

Sostis Beach is a secluded and non-organised beach. The beach is located on the north western side of the island between the beaches of Kaminaki and Pisolimionas. The beach is named after a small church which is dedicated to Saint Sostis (meaning Saviour), that is standing on top of the hill near the beach.

Due to its northern location the beach can be affected by winds in the summer, the so called maltemia.

 

Ateni Beach

Ateni beach can be found in the north eastern side of Andros. It compromises of two stunning sandy beaches which is well known but not overcrowded. In fact, here you can enjoy the tranquillity and isolation of no big crowds.

It is easy to visit the beach by road. When you drive from Gavrio to Chora, turn left at the junction near Batsi and head for the village of Katakoilos. The last 2-3km of the road is a dirt road.

The sea at Arteni is crystal clear and you get the feeling of swimming in a pool due to its hue and depth. It is ideal for kids as this makes it a bit safer, with no rough waters.

Batsi Beach

Batsi is built on hills overlooking a natural harbour and the magnificent beach. The beach is very popular among tourists and families. You will find many tourist amenities and tamarisk trees on the beach which makes this an ideal beach. Another family friendly feature is the shallow seawater.

Many taverns, cafes, shops, bakeries, banking facilities and an open-air cinema are close by.

Chora Beach

Pebbled, Organised, family friendly

Location: walking distance from Chora

Niborio beach is located at Chora, the islands capital. The beach has shallow waters and is ideal for families with young children. In the port there are many fishing boats and yachts and you can find the Andros Nautical Club here. The beach is fully organised with sunbeds, showers, changing rooms, taverns, cafes and bars.

Chrissi Ammos Beach

Partly Organized, Sandy, Family Friendly, Water sports

Location: 30km west of Chora

Chrissi Ammos beach is the most popular beach of Andros. It is a beautiful sandy beach and its name means “Golden Sand”. The beach is located on the way from Gavrio to Batsi, right between Kypri and Agios Petros. Its location ensures good protection from the wind.

On the beach you will find umbrellas, sunbeds, beach bars and refreshing drinks. The beach is conveniently located on the central road of Andros and close to accommodation and restaurant facilities.

Fellos Beach

Sandy, Non-Organised, Nudism friendly, Games

Location: 35km north west of Chora, 5km north of the port of Gavrio

Fellos beach has crystal clear waters and a sandy beach. There are a few trees that offers shade to visitors. The bay can be affected by summer winds, but it is generally a nice beach to swim at. Fellos is also nice for fishing.

In the nearby area you can find accommodation facilities and taverns. Other beaches close by is Kourali and Selki.

Gialia Beach

Pebbled, Non-Organised

Location: 2km north of Chora near Stenies village

Gialia beach is a nice pebbled beach with crystal clear waters and located in a small cove. Sometimes it could be affected by the co-called meltemia winds. There are many tourist facilities like rooms to rent, taverns and restaurants.

Grias Pidima Beach

Sandy and pebbled, Non-Organised

Location: 1km north of Ormos, 23km from Chora

Grias Pidima beach means “the old woman’s jump”. This beach is the most characteristic and most photographed of all the beaches on Andros. It is located on the south-eastern coast of the island and have lovely clear waters.

The setting is unspoiled with no umbrellas or facilities. Tourist need to bring their own if they visit this beach. The standout of this beach is the 21m high rock emerging from the sea with its raw and natural charm.

The beach can be reached by boat from Korthi or by private transportation. However, when reaching the beach, you will have to walk about 300m on foot following a downhill path.

Halkolimionas Beach

Pebbled, Secluded, Non-Organised, No facilities

Location: 20km south west of Chora

This is a secluded beach located south west of Chora close to the village of Paleopolis. The beach has pebbles and is rocky and there are no tourist facilities. To get to the beach you you follow the road from Chora to Menites and continue to the archaeological site of Zagora. The beach is only a few kilometres from there on a narrow raod.

Some accommodation options can be found in the area.

Kaminaki Beach

Sandy, Secluded, Non-Organised, No facilities

Location: 40km north west of Chora

Kaminaki beach is a secluded beach located between the beaches of Agios Sostis and Vlychada. Kaminaki is a small cove and gets affected by the northern summer winds and therefore are not very popular under tourists. There are also no tourist facilities in the area and accommodation can be found about 10km away in Fellos and Gavrio.

The road is also not very good, and you need a jeep or motorbike to get to the beach.

Kourtali Beach

Sandy, Secluded, Non-Organised, No facilities

Location: 35km north west of Chora

Kourtali is a small cove in close distance to Gavrio and located next to the bay of Fellos. There are no facilities and a good beach if you are in need of isolation. The water is clean, the sand soft and the beach is surrounded by abrupt cliffside.

Facilities can be found in Gavrio about 5km away. The beach is unorganized and the road leading to the beach is very narrow. Fishing is also an option at this beach.

Kypri Beach

Kypri is a windless beach located on the west side of Andros. It is a sandy beach with clear waters and offers umbrellas, sunbeds and beach bars. The beach is very family friendly and offers parking to visitors.

Windsurfing courses and rentals are also available.

Megali and Mikri Peza Beach

Pebbled, Secluded, Non-Organised

Location: 45km north west of Chora

Megali and Mikri Peza beach is located next to each other. These beaches are frequently affected by the northern summer wind. The beaches have pebbles, crystal clear waters and no tourist facilities. You need to bring your own supplies as there is no villages in close distance. These beaches are ideal for fishing.

The beaches can only be reached with a private car and it is recommended to be a jeep or motorbike due to the poor road.

Neimporio Beach

Neimporio beach lies to the left of Chora and can easily be reached on foot or by car. The waters are shallow which makes it ideal for families with young children. There are many facilities like bars, cafes and restaurants in the area. The Sailing School of the Andros Navy Club is also in the vicinity.

The rock of Tourlos can be found in the middle of the beach and divides the beach in two. One side you have a sandy beach and the other a sandy and pebbled beach.

From Neimporio beach you can also see the famous chapel of Agia Thalassini, Unknown Sailor Square as well as the Lighthouse Tourlitis.

Ormos Beach

Location: 20km south of Chora

This vast sandy beach has a paved boulevard besides it bay with a matching concrete wall. Big rocks have been thrown over the wall and serves as a shock absorber for the crashing waves.

The beach has no shade to offer tourists and there are a few tourist amenities in the area like scattered cafes and taverns. Nearby Ormos there is a folk museum that becomes a venue of festivities with live performances during the summer season.

Paraporti Beach

Paraporti beach lies on the right of the Chora peninsula. There are many bushes that offer shade to its visitors. Paraproti is a deep and wild sea as the Great River runs into it and it has tall waves and winds.

From the beach you have beautiful views of Chora and its tourist attractions, like the Tourlitis Lighthouse, Panachrantou monastery and the chapel of Agios Ermolaos.

You can find taverns and tourist facilities in the nearby area.

Piso Gialia Beach

Piso Gialia beach is one of the most crowded beaches on the island and very popular under tourists. The beach is easy to reach, and the route is full of stone walls and trees. The sandy beach, blue waters and comfortable sea swimming makes this a good beach to visit.

There are lots of boats, jetski’s and a beach bar which is very popular during the day as well as at night. They have lovely music, drinks and food.

Pisolimionas Beach

Location: 40km north west of Chora

Pisolimionas beach is a secluded beach about 7km from Gavrio. There are no trees for shade or any tourist facilities. This beach is ideal for fishermen who enjoy the peace and quietness. This beach is sandy but also has pebbles.

Pyrgos Beach

Pebbled, Secluded, Non-Organised

Location: 35km north west of Chora

Pygros beach can be reached through a dirt road and is remotely located with no tourist facilities. If you enjoy your privacy this is the place for you.

The beach took its name (meaning tower) from the Venetian tower of Makrotantalos that now lays in ruins on the rock above the beach.

Vitali Beach

To reach Vitali beach you have a beautiful drive ahead of you from Gavrio, around 15km with 3km of dirt road. This will take around 45minutes to reach the beach.

This pebbled beach lays in a small bay and has natural shade offered by a big rock. There are umbrellas and sun loungers as well as a beach bar.

Vitali beach is ideal for diving and you can jump into the sea from the high rocks.

Vlychada Beach

Pebbled, Secluded, Non-Organised

Location: 40km north west of Chora

This is one of Andros’s most beautiful beaches with its soft sand and crystal blue waters. The location is very remote, and the road is not very good to reach the beach. There are also no tourist facilities at this beach.

Zorkos Beach

Sandy, Secluded, Non-Organised

Location: 40km north of Chora
